With so much focus on sustainable choices in today’s environment, the fashion industry is starting to think about how clothing can become more eco-friendly as well, which actually consists of quite a few choices and quite a few different objectives. For instance, not only is an item of clothing looked at in terms of sustainability, but at how ethical the supply chain of production is used, the amount of fuel was used for transportation, and where in the world it was produced.
One way to look at eco-fashion is to consider simply buying clothing that is made and manufactured nearby or at least in the European arena, given the fact that you can then rest assured of the quality of the employee treatment, the environment of the country it was produced in, and the fact that the piece of clothing you are purchasing will not leave behind a huge carbon footprint in air miles or truck transport.
Another factor to think about is how organic the material is, because not only will organic material break down better when it comes time to throw away a piece of clothing, but it also is usually a much more sustainable choice that will hold up much longer than any other product.
Finally, if you want to make a difference, consider looking for items of clothing that are made on the fair trade market, because while it may not offer every qualification, it will certainly be much more eco friendly than other items of mass produced clothing choices on the market.
